Arranging Symphonic, Vocal, and Piano Works for performance on Carillon
by Frances Newell

Beethoven Pastoral Symphony, Final Movement, Section 4

Beethoven AUDIO CLIP 4 Hear MP3
mm 87-91, descending triplet theme, this time accent is on downbeat, phrasing reflects that.
mm 92-100, building up to final climax. Fast 16th notes in strings, too much for carillon. Put 8th notes in triplet rhythm on top, with dissonances pushing to resolution. Theme in middle layer and even bass layer. M100, final 8th beat apportamento emphasizes new harmonic buildup to climax.
m101-108, theme starts in low brass, moves up through winds. Put theme on high range, supporting harmony and rhythm in middle or bass, but 8ths catching essential notes instead of running chromatic 16ths.
